I would like to invite to you a lecture that we organize on the 12^th of September at 2pm in the CN Hall at the Nencki Institute. We will host prof. Martin Vingron, head of the Transcriptional Regulation Group and the Scientific Director of the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics in Berlin.

Prof. Vingron will give a lecture entitled: Machine learning in gene regulation: simple methods and complex data

Abstract
This presentation will summarize a few projects where machine learning methods are being employed to unravel gene regulatory mechanisms. The challenge lies in the combination of DNA sequence information with functional measurements on the epigenetic state of the chromatin in order to rationalize in which cellular state a gene gets activated. Time permitting, I will include some philosophical remarks on the importance of the choice of positive and, especially, negative training data.

The lecture will be followed by a get together reception.

After a short break, we are back with the new European SPARK Education Series, Fall 2022 Edition. Nencki Institute as a representative of SPARK Poland within SPARK Europe would like to cordially invite you to participate in the upcoming webinar on September 7th, 16-17 CET.

During the “Non-Interventional Studies: building and broadening the value story”, Daniel Schwarz & Marika Chrápavá will provide us with some advice and perspectives on the utility of observational data and how they differ from data collected under experimental conditions. Daniel is the Chief Information Officer (CIO) of IBA Ltd. and an associate professor at Masaryk University and the Brno University of Technology. Marika is the Head of the Department of Clinical Projects at IBA Ltd. Institute of Biostatistics and Analyses, Ltd. (IBA Ltd.) is a spin-off of the Masaryk University, focuses mainly on the areas of project management of clinical research, real-world evidence (RWE) projects, organization, and management of clinical trials, particularly non-interventional clinical trials and health registries.

The series of webinars is open for all students and employees of SPARK-associated organizations (Nencki Institute PAS and International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw).

Registration for the webinar is required in advance. Please register 

latest on September 6th. With later registrations, access cannot be guaranteed. There are a limited number of places available and they are filled in in the order of registration.

As a reminder, the current Fall 2022 Webinar Series will take place on the first or second Wednesday of the month at 16 -17 CET and will cover topics from design thinking to challenges in selling complex high-tech products from top-quality speakers around Europe and the US.
