PhD opportunity, Multi Modal Molecular Imaging Italian Node, Pisa, Italy
Want to work for a Euro-BioImaging Node in Italy? Now’s your chance! The University of Pisa – part of our Multi Modal Molecular Imaging Italian Node – is opening two PhD positions on Multimodality Molecular Imaging. Great opportunity to work in an international core facility in great locations in Italy.
The positions correspond to two different research activities.
The first one is focused on preclinical multimodality molecular imaging. The PhD student’s project will develop in a highly interdisciplinary working environment within the Euro-BioImaging research infrastructure that has three laboratories in Pisa, at the Department of Physics, at the Institute of Clinical Physiology (IFC) of the National Research Council (CNR) and at the Guido Monasterio Foundation. In particular, the student will perform experiments with PET/CT, SPECT/CT and optical imaging systems, analyze data and develop image reconstruction algorithms using methods based on artificial intelligence.
The second research activity will be carried out at the Euro-Bioimaging Node for Phase contrast imaging at the SYRMEP beamline of ELETTRA Sincrotrone Trieste, part of our Phase Contrast Imaging Node. The PhD student’s project will mainly deal with 2D and 3D phase sensitive imaging techniques, with different resolution scales, exploiting the high brilliance and intensity of the synchrotron source. The techniques developed at SYRMEP are particularly suitable to be combined with other imaging techniques, such as MRI, SPECT and PET in preclinical research, or with histology and TEM, for high-resolution tissue studies, thus allowing the PhD student to also work in a multimodal environment.
Further information can be found by contacting the research coordinator Nicola Belcari at nicola.belcari@unipi.it or Giuliana Tromba, giuliana.tromba@elettra.eu.
