Z dniem 1 lutego 2022r. prof. Agnieszka Dobrzyń została powołana, w drodze otwartego konkursu, na drugą kadencję (2022-2026) pełnienia funkcji Dyrektora Instytutu Nenckiego PAN. Powołanie wręczył Prezes PAN, prof. Jerzy Duszyński.

Na swoich zastępców prof. Agnieszka Dobrzyń powołała:

Dr hab. Monikę Liguz-Lęcznar, prof. Instytutu – II Zastępca ds. Naukowych

Mgr. Tomasza Koczyka – Zastępca ds. Organizacyjnych i Rozwoju

Prof. dr hab. Agnieszka Dobrzyń kieruje Pracownią Sygnałów Komórkowych i Zaburzeń Metabolicznych w Instytucie Nenckiego. Od 2022 roku jest członkiem koresp. Polskiej Akademii Nauk.

Na dorobek naukowy prof. A. Dobrzyń składa się 126 publikacji, które były cytowane 3393 razy (indeks H=32). Tytuł profesora nauk biologicznych, prof. Agnieszka Dobrzyń uzyskała w grudniu 2015 r. Dwukrotnie otrzymała Nagrodę Ministra Nauki i Szkolnictwa Wyższego za wybitne osiągnięcia naukowe (2016 i 2020). Badania prowadzone przez prof. A. Dobrzyń dotyczą szlaków sygnałowych i zmian w regulacji ekspresji genów charakterystycznych dla zaburzeń metabolizmu komórki i patogenezy cukrzycy. Prace te pozwoliły na odkrycie nowego szlaku regulującego wydzielanie insuliny, a także na określenie mechanizmów adaptacji wysp trzustkowych do insulinooporności towarzyszącej rozwojowi cukrzycy typu 2. Prof. A. Dobrzyń jest autorem patentów dotyczących stworzenia innowacyjnej metody wczesnej diagnostyki insulinooporności oraz nowych terapii cukrzycy. Na swoje badania uzyskała szereg prestiżowych grantów, w tym EMBO-Installation Grant, TEAM Fundacji na rzecz Nauki Polskiej, Sonata-Bis Narodowego Centrum Nauki, Marie Sklodowska Curie COFUND grant (Horizon 2020), STRATEGMED Narodowego Centrum Badań i Rozwoju.

We will host Prof. Martin Klingenspor, Chair of Molecular Nutritional Medicine at the Technical University of Munich within the School of Life Sciences Weihenstephan. Prof. Klingenspor will give a lecture entitled: More than a furnace: Thermogenic adipocytes listen to the gut and talk to the brain.

Abstract

Two different types of adipose tissues with contrary functions play an essential role in energy balance regulation. While white adipose tissue stores excess calories in the form of energy-rich triglycerides, brown adipose tissue is used for thermogenesis in the defence of cold. The heating mechanism in brown adipocytes, known as nonshivering thermogenesis, wastes chemical energy by uncoupling mitochondrial oxygen consumption from ATP synthesis. This unique biochemical mechanism for thermogenesis depends on uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1), expressed exclusively in thermogenic brown and brite adipocytes. The latter represent inducible brown (or beige) adipocytes in white adipose tissue. The discovery of functional brown fat in healthy adults has spurred the search for pharmacological and nutritional interventions to recruit and activate this heating organ for the treatment of metabolic disorders. All the more so because thermogenic brown and brite adipocytes are not only activated in response to cold but also induced while eating. Our research addresses the impact of thermogenic adipocytes on diet-induced obesity and aims to elucidate the underlying physiological mechanisms.
